The Heritage Education Center was built in 2003 as a facility to host programs, classes, and traveling exhibits and to store some of our permanent collection in a climate-controlled facility. McKenzie Hall, located in the Center, is an elegant multi-use space that is available to rent. French doors open onto the gorgeous green and the Martha Brice Gardens. See the Rentals page for more information. The building’s facade was modeled after Coldstream Plantation, an early 1800s house once located in the eastern part of Sumter County near Salem Black River Church before it burned down in the 1950s. The Center has a theater, McKenzie Hall and the Witherspoon Gallery.
